Controller and contact

The controller for this website is Matteo Messina, operating suezcanal.xyz. Privacy requests can be sent to republic@suezcanal.xyz.

Website access

The site is hosted on Aruba infrastructure. As part of delivering and securing the service, the hosting system may process request data such as IP address, time, requested resource, browser information, referrer and server errors.

The legal basis is the controller’s legitimate interest in operating, diagnosing and protecting the website. Logs are retained only according to the hosting service’s operating, security and legal criteria, then deleted or aggregated by the provider.

Email enquiries

When a visitor writes by email, the sender address, message, attachments and subsequent correspondence are processed to answer the enquiry and, where requested, prepare a collaboration or contract.

The legal basis is taking steps at the sender’s request before a contract, or the legitimate interest in answering professional correspondence. Messages are kept for the time needed to manage and document the exchange; longer retention applies only where a contract or legal obligation requires it.

Please do not send sensitive personal data unless it is necessary for the stated request.

Cookies and browser storage

The primary editorial pages do not use advertising, behavioural analytics, profiling cookies or tracking pixels. They do not write preferences or identifiers to cookies, local storage or session storage. For that reason, these pages do not display a consent banner.

If non-essential tracking is introduced later, it must remain disabled until the visitor makes an informed choice. This page and the footer must be updated at the same time.

External services and research pages

Links to Vimeo, GitHub, Instagram, Telegram, SeaCommons and other external sites do not transfer data from this page before they are followed. After navigation, the destination service acts under its own privacy information.

Some Republic archive and mapping pages request software or map resources from public delivery networks and mapping providers, including unpkg, jsDelivr and OpenStreetMap. Opening those pages can disclose the visitor’s IP address and browser request data to the relevant provider. These requests support the published simulation or model; they are not used by suezcanal.xyz to build advertising profiles.

Rights

Under the GDPR, a person may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction or portability where applicable, and may object to processing based on legitimate interests. A request can be sent to the controller email above.

A person may also lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. In Italy, this is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

Change control

Privacy review is part of release review. New embeds, analytics, forms, browser storage, microphone access or remote model calls require a documented purpose, data path, legal basis, retention rule and visible user information before publication.
